In June 2016, AerFin were presented with the National Small Employer of the Year award by the Learning and Work Institute of Wales in recognition of their commitment to staff training within the Company. The Award showcases the achievements of businesses in Wales who have exceeded expectations and shown a dynamic approach to training and personal development.
The EASA 147 training college, ICAT Aerospace, had been working alongside AerFin to support the workshop staff and it was as a result of their nomination that the Award was presented. ICAT were very impressed by the way AerFin had constructed individual training plans aligned to the needs of each of the learners along with the time, effort, flexibility and commitment given to staff throughout all aspects of the business.
Employees with knowledge in engineering and mechanics but with little or no aviation background are properly trained by utilising experienced aviation workshop personnel with many years of aircraft engineering experience. This ‘buddy-buddy’ system was introduced back in 2014.
Operations Manager Alex Sebury said ‘Since joining the company in early 2013 I have been given some fantastic opportunities to progress my carrier in aviation and have endeavoured to give the same opportunities to our new starters in the Operations section of the business. The success of the buddy-buddy system is due to the enthusiasm of the learners and the commitment of the experienced technicians who mentored the trainees.”
In addition, AerFin have offered training for management, allowing them to become qualified Assessors and Verifiers, offering flexible learning schemes with regular assessments and feedback in their place of work.
The AerFin team are very proud of the success of the training and progression of individuals throughout the company and the Award is a great reflection of the commitment it has towards staff development.
